Iron Dog 2009!! - 2009-09-27

The Iron Dog competition is a 1.5 mile obstacle course set up to simulate the conditions a police K9 team may encounter during a work shift. The event was hosted by the Vermont Police Canine Association and was held on the beautiful grounds of Camp Kiniya in Colchester.  Many venders and fire, rescue and police agencies were represented at the event as well as demos from disc dogs and police K9s.  The Vermont National Guard also provided a portable climbing wall which seemed to be a big hit with the kids.   The Iron Dog course itself was designed and constructed by volunteers and involved running through wooded areas, collecting evidence off of a dock and in buildings, simulated handgun shooting (using BB guns), various climbing and crawling obstacles, and the dog carry (which worried those of us with heftier pooches).  General B and I gave the course our best shot and although we did not win a prize we completed the course with a respectable time.  The competition between runners can be fierce at times, but everyone cheers each other on and we remember that it is all in good fun and for an important cause.

A Busy Month for Gulliver’s. - 2009-09-22

September has proven to be a busy month for the Gulliver’s crew.  Gulliver’s participated in the Central Vermont Humane Society event in Montpelier on Saturday the 12th and was at the Shelburne Museum for the Shelburne Museum Goes to the Dogs event on Sunday the 13th.  The Gulliver’s crew made some new friends and saw some familiar faces at both events.  Our doggie ambassadors, General B and Sergeant had fun traveling and spreading the word about Gullivers.  I had two very tired pups after the very busy weekend.  Don’t tell General B, but this Saturday he has to gear up and show his skills at the Iron Dog competition at camp Kiniya in Colchester.

Training Classes Begin September 14th. - 2009-08-29

Another session of training classes will be starting on September 14th.  Beginner obedience class will be held on Monday evenings from 6:45 to 7:45 for six weeks.  The cost of the class is $80 for the six week session.

Updated Play Equipment. - 2009-08-04

The red house has gotten an update with a new porch.  The German Shepherds have claimed the new addition as their favorite resting perch and all the dogs love the new shade offered under the porch.  I would like to thank everyone who helped in constructing and painting the new equipment for the dogs.
